My group had the strategy lesson "Sketching
a Text". Since our area of emphasis is science, we decided to do our
lesson plan on the water cycle. We chose to give groups different articles
to interpret so that they could draw and label the water cycle without looking
at pictures. After they completed the drawing on the whiteboard, we were able
to see the differences amongst the groups. We saw areas of success along with
struggle. After, we showed the pictures that went along with each article. I
really enjoyed working on this strategy because charts and images are really
important in a science classroom.
Each member of the group contributed equally
which made it even better; we were able to get all of our thoughts and ideas
out to come up with our great lesson plan. When we actually presented the
lesson plan, I was so happy/proud with how our group did. We were organized,
prepared, and had great ideas that made it interesting for the students to
complete the lesson. I think the articles that we chose was perfect for middle
grades and how we taught the students went really well. A few grows would be to group students with a
purpose and give the students a “roll” when put into groups. Overall, I am
super happy with the outcome of our strategy lesson.

Thanks, Taylor. As you grow into becoming a teacher, strive to be more analytical about specific aspects of your teaching that you can pick out for analysis and adjust in your future teaching.
ReplyDeleteYou wrote, "We saw areas of success along with struggle." This is too vague for you to take action on. Name these successes and explain how they can be repeated. Also, name these struggles and hypothesize how your teaching should change in the future to address them. Also, you used the wrong spelling of role.
Good job with your lesson. I thought that y'all did a really nice job of thinking through what kinds of skills and knowledge to pair with the sketching activity.
